1 in 4 “big discounts” this festive sale weren't cheaper than usual
We checked 2,771 product listings on Flipkart, Amazon and Myntra during the festive sales (from 07 October 2026) against each product's own price history. Listings advertised an average of 61% off MRP — but on average they were only 10% cheaper than what the same product usually sells for.
Where the discounts were least real

The widest gaps
- Smartwatches on Flipkart: shown as 95% off (MRP ₹19,999 → ₹999), but its usual price is ₹999 — a real saving of 0%.
- Dresses on Myntra: shown as 90% off (MRP ₹1,999 → ₹199), but its usual price is ₹208 — a real saving of 4%.
- T-shirts on Myntra: shown as 90% off (MRP ₹1,999 → ₹199), but its usual price is ₹205 — a real saving of 3%.
- Sarees on Myntra: shown as 90% off (MRP ₹7,999 → ₹799), but its usual price is ₹799 — a real saving of 0%.
- Earbuds & headphones on Flipkart: shown as 90% off (MRP ₹8,999 → ₹899), but its usual price is ₹899 — a real saving of 0%.
- Kurtas on Myntra: shown as 90% off (MRP ₹5,250 → ₹529), but its usual price is ₹534 — a real saving of 1%.

Sample sizes differ by store and reflect the listings we checked, not each store's whole catalogue — compare stores with care.
Where the real deals were
The festive sales do have genuine bargains — 1,267 listings were at least 10% below their usual price. The most honest discounts were in: Sneakers & casual shoes (26% real saving), Jeans (20% real saving), Shirts (18% real saving), Kurtas & suits (17% real saving), Jackets & blazers (17% real saving).
Method
- Sample: 2,771 listings on Flipkart, Amazon.in and Myntra seen between 07 October 2026 and 09 October 2026, 02:53 IST, each with at least 30 days of price history. Listings were collected by searching each product category in the stores' normal (relevance) order — not only “deal” pages. The table shows the 25 categories with at least 40 listings and 15 “50%+ off” listings.
- Claimed discount = the % off MRP the store shows. Real saving = how far the sale price is below the product's usual (average) price over its history.
- “Not cheaper than usual” = the sale price is at or above 95% of the usual price. “Big discount” = 50%+ off MRP.
- Price history comes from pricehistory.app and BuyHatke, plus DealsDekho's own price checks. Bank-card and coupon offers are not included.
- Limits: prices change hourly during sales; the usual price can include earlier sale days; categories are assigned from product titles.
